Former Patriots tight end and convicted murderer, the late Aaron Hernandez, will have his chilling story chronicled in a TV series starring Josh Andres Rivera

Cable network FX is set to release a limited series detailing the life and death of disgraced former NFL tight end Aaron Hernandez, as part of its widely popular American Story series.

Josh Andrés Rivera, best known for his role as Chino in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story will portray the fallen football phenom.

Aaron Hernadez was a tight end for the New England Patriots and formed a powerful pass-catching pair with fellow TE Rob Gronkowski until he was arrested in 2013 and eventually convicted of first-degree murder. He also faced a separate double homicide charge, where he was acquitted.

Days after being acquitted in the double-murder case, however, he was found dead in his cell in 2017. His death, at 27 years of age, was ruled a suicide. Because of his star stature on such a high-profile team, ‘the Aaron Hernandez story’ sent shockwaves throughout the NFL, pro sports, and pop culture.

Now, that story is set to be told by the folks at FX. And the series itself, American Crime Story, is certainly no rookie when it comes to tackling stories about disgraced gridiron greats.

In a critically acclaimed season of the series, it covered O.J. Simpson’s murder trial, the killing of fashion designer Gianni Versace, and the Bill Clinton impeachment, so it should make for interesting viewing.

The season regarding Hernandez – American Sports Story: Gladiator – is also set to star Lindsay Mendez and Patrick Schwarzenegger (son of Arnold) in supporting roles.
