As the Giants prepared to host the Packers for ESPN’s Sunday Night match-up, the DeVito family tailgated in style

Quarterback Tommy DeVito made his first-ever appearance on Sunday Night Football this week, guiding the New York Giants to a thrilling 24-22 win over the Green Bay Packers. It was the kind of victory you could sink your teeth into. And that’s precisely what DeVito’s family did.

DeVito, 25, is an undrafted rookie out of Illinois who was pressed into duty for the Giants when starting quarterback Daniel Jones went down to injury. He was soon followed by second-stringer Tyrod Taylor. Since then, the ‘backup’s backup’ has become a sentimental favorite – as sort of an underdog who’s under pressure.

The youngster has responded well. DeVito is 3-1 as a starter, throwing eight touchdowns against just three interceptions. He’s shown maturity so far in the pocket and has given New York (5-8) a glimmer of hope in what would have been an otherwise lost season.

A New Jersey native, he was able to come home over the weekend as the local boy who made good. And his family celebrated his success the way folks usually do just off the turnpike – with food and beverages.

DeVito’s family held a huge party that featured what seemed like tons of food. There were even over 300 chicken cutlets prepared personally by Tommy’s cousin, Danny DeVito. (No. Not that Danny DeVito).

While Tommy DeVito may be taking a bite out of the Big Apple right now, his task isn’t going to get any easier. With the G-Men one game out of the final wild card slot, it’s going to be an uphill battle ahead. This Sunday, New York faces the New Orleans Saints (6-7), who are also hungry for a postseason berth.
