The animosity is escalating between former NFL QB Robert Griffin III and play caller Jay Gruden, and it’s seemingly getting bigger

At one time, Robert Griffin III and Jay Gruden seemed to be a masterful match in Washington. But despite some success, they eventually faltered on the field. Now, that failure seems to have led to a fiery feud, as the two have shared some blistering exchanges through social media.

A Ruined Relationship With The Redskins

The relationship between quarterback and coach has become acrimonious, to say the least. While it was originally envisioned as a dream team, pairing a multi-talented playmaker with an offensive-minded play-caller, things went south, quickly, and many blame Gruden for the promising QB’s failure to fully mature as a superstar in the NFL.

Now, RG III is firing direct hits at Gruden, and they have garnered a response from his former coach. The former Heisman Trophy winner recently said that he was made the scapegoat of the coach’s failures in the Nation’s Capital.

“There was a moment that happened in D.C. that is vividly remembered,” Griffin said in a video shared on X. “Jay Gruden went to a press conference and he undressed me at that press conference in a way a coach should never undress his starting quarterback.”

Griffin Goes Into Detail

“It was after a game and I said in the press conference that ‘the best players in the NFL have the guys around them play at an extremely high level. No one is out there doing it on their own.’”

“Now the media pundits and everyone took that and say, RGIII threw his teammates under the bus,” Griffin continued. “And I had to eat that for a long time because Jay didn’t back me in the media the next day. He doubled down on it and actually picked me apart in the media.”

“What people don’t know is that the only reason I went to that press conference and said what I said to challenge my teammates through that press conference, was because Jay Gruden asked me to do that. What hurt me about that after I did that in the press conference, not only did Jay Gruden not have my back, but he actually burned me with it the next day. He actually came out the next day and burned me in the media. He came out the next day in our team meeting room and burned me in front of my teammates.”

Gruden Fires Back

As soon as he was made aware of RG III’s statements, Jay Gruden was more than happy to engage with his former player.

He simply replied: “You really wanna play this game?”

Then, the former coach bluntly posted on X: “Go race a pigeon” along with a clip of Griffin racing a bird.
