Cary Williams, a former women’s boxer who won the Pacific Northwest Women’s Tournament before retiring and becoming an Olympic-level boxing coach, voiced disdain for USA Boxing’s decision to allow biological males to compete against female boxers.

Williams’ website describes her as a “Level IV Boxing Coach” who has been chosen by USA Boxing to certify trainers as Level I and Level II, as well as having “trained many boxers, some of which have made it to Olympic Trial Qualifying Tournaments.”

She spoke with Fox News about her shock that USA Boxing was allowing transgender males to compete against females.

“When I heard that they were allowing transgender people to box women, I could not believe it,” she said. “I know it’s been going on in a lot of sports, which is not right on any level. But when you’re talking about people punching each other in the face, in the body, in the head, I really was surprised.”

Sparring With A Teenage Boy Ended In Disaster

Cary Williams went on to tell an incredibly scary story about having to spar with a young man that ended in disaster.

“I was preparing for a fight, and, at the time, there were a lot of teenage boys on the boxing team at the gym. So, I sparred with a lot of teenage boys, and there weren’t as many women boxing in the sport around that time,” she recalled. “So, I was sparring with a 16-year-old boy, and you know they all still went light on me.”

“Even though they were boys, they still went light on me, and he just threw, he flicked in a body shot and fractured one of my ribs. It was hairline but hurt like hell, and he didn’t mean to do it,” Williams added. “I just thought, wow, like the power behind a teenage boy.”

Based on that personal experience, Williams wondered how much worse it would have been if that 16-year-old boy was a man.

“I couldn’t imagine, you know, being hit by a grown man. So, yeah, that experience, it takes me to this whole other level of thought, you know, thinking if they’re really going to allow men to go in there and box with women,” she concluded. “That is just deadly.”

USA Boxing’s new “transgender policy” was included in its updated rule book for 2024. The group quietly announced the new rules in a statement earlier this month.

That policy was written in August of 2022 and is now solidified as part of USA Boxing’s rule book. It dictates that male boxers who transition to female are eligible to compete in the female category provided they meet certain conditions.

That criterion includes the male-to-female boxer having undergone gender reassignment surgery, maintaining a testosterone level below a certain threshold for a set period, and providing quarterly hormone testing results.

Upon hearing the new USA Boxing rules, Cary Williams almost immediately urged women boxers to boycott any events involved with the organization.

In an interview with the Daily Signal, she said she’d advise Team USA Boxing to “walk away if you have a man coming in to compete against you guys.”
