Philadelphia Eagles star quarterback Jalen Hurts is doing his part to help a family in Texas that was rocked by tragedy earlier in March.

An 18-year-old high school football player by the name of Jarvon Coles was killed in a shooting back on March 9 after at least one shooter fired gunshots at the direction of a Houston-based house party. The North Shore High School linebacker was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a local hospital.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport now notes that Mr. Hurts paid for the expenses of the funeral for the young man.

A native of Houston, Hurts starred at Channelview High School before ultimately making his way to the Alabama Crimson Tide and Oklahoma Sooners in college. He was a rival of the same school that Coles suited up for prior to his tragic passing.

Coles’ grandfather told KHOU 11 in Houston following his passing that the young man had posted a 4.1 grade-point average. He had also been accepted into 15 colleges and planned to go to Lamar University.

The young man’s granfather also had an important message for other parents of high school students.

“Parents, please keep your kids close. No matter how hard you try, you can’t save them,” Braxton Coles said.
