Heisman Trophy Winner Presents Call To Action In Stirring Testimony

Last week, Bounding Into Sports reported that former University of Florida and NFL quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow would appear before Congress to testify on the scourge of child trafficking and child sexual abuse.

March 6 was the day for that testimony and Tebow delivered both heartbreaking and inspiring remarks before the House Judiciary Committee Subcommittee On Crime and Federal Government Surveillance. He called for a bill to create a “rescue team” for the more than 50,000 unidentified boys and girls being abused in the proliferation of child pornographic materials.

During his testimony, Tebow read from a letter written by a child who was a victim of sustained sexual abuse over seven years:

“Help me. Monsters are chasing. Can’t you see? Monsters are whispering. Can’t you hear? Monsters are shouting, ‘You’re nothing!’ Can’t you feel my pain? Monsters are pushing, ‘End it all! Just jump!’ Can’t you hear all the ‘whys’ I’m asking? Monsters are laughing, ‘You’re all alone in this!’ Can someone please rescue me?”

Video of Tebow’s moving recitation of the letter was posted to TikTok and X:

Tebow Calls For Action, Not Words

Tebow was adamant that he was not just appearing before Congress to talk, he was there to demand action. He called on Congress to say yes to a bill that he and the Tim Tebow Foundation would be presenting. The bill calls for the creation of a “rescue team” that has the funding, training, support, and technology to identify and save those more than 50,000 children.

Appearing with Tebow for this call to action were Camille Cooper, Vice President of Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Exploitation, Tim Tebow Foundation; Jim Cole, retired Homeland Security Investigations supervisor; and John Madsen, Retired Commander of the North Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force.

Tebow Shares His Capitol Hill Experience To Urge More Support

On social media, there was universal acclaim for Tebow’s testimony, including from Congressman Matt Gaetz, who was part of the subcommittee, and Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt. But the most moving social media posts came from Tebow himself.

Here is the full text of that tweet:

Viewer Discretion Advised: “Voice for the Voiceless” House Judiciary Committee Hearing Testimony on behalf of child sexual abuse victims

Last night, I got a message from a girl who has been rescued and she said, “thank you so much for speaking up for us”…and it was humbling to get that.

But if all we do today is speak…if all I do is speak then I also miss the mark. We have to do more than just talk about it. We have to act on it and be about it.

My hope and prayer is that today be a day that we wouldn’t miss the mark, that we would hear his cries, and her cries, and that we would hear all the boys and girls calling out and we would answer the call.

Every single one of the 50,000+ unknown boys and girls are worth us answering the call and doing everything we can so that they can experience the Faith, Hope and Love that they deserve…not the darkness, evil and torture that they’re in right now.

Thank you, Lord, for this humbling opportunity. I am grateful that we have a chance to be a part of His mission for the Most Vulnerable boys and girls around the world. @tebowfoundation

He also shared a shorter tweet before his testimony began, thanking Congress for the opportunity to bring the subject to their attention.

The rest of that tweet reads, “Identifying and rescuing these children is so much more than policy. Policy is important, but our focus has to stay on people. They deserve our best because God set the example and gave His very best, His son Jesus.”

As Bounding Into Sports has reported, Tebow is not only a devout and outspoken Christian, but he has been fighting against child trafficking and sexual abuse for many years. This included, as he testified today, his participation in the recent Operation Renewed Hope, which identified many previously unknown victims and rescued many of them.

Tebow uses his celebrity and influence for a noble purpose and we congratulate him for that. But today, he took an even bigger step into fighting against child pornography and all the abuse that comes with it by demanding that the U.S. government take strong action. He concluded his testimony with these powerful words:

Most of you came to Congress because you wanted to make the world better, you wanted to help people, you wanted to change things. Today is not about policy or politics, it’s about people. You can change the lives of tens of thousands of children right now.

I imagine these children go to bed afraid every night. I imagine they cry themselves to sleep. They are hurting. They probably pray every night for someone to come and rescue them. They think no one is coming to save them.

But you can. You can save them.
