O.J. Simpson, Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys don’t need another O.J. Simpson. This is not a sentence that I thought would need to be written in 2024. But apparently, some parts of society have become so unhinged that we must bring up the obvious.

One can conclude that the media world is represented in that part of society. At least, to an extent.

The latest example of this is rather jaw-dropping and downright ridiculous

Chris Broussard of Fox Sports 1 was on air recently talking about NFL trade rumors linking Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris to the Dallas Cowboys. He decided to bring up Simpson, who passed away back on April 10 at the age of 76. You won’t believe what he had to say.

“I would’ve loved to see them have gotten Derrick Henry. But if not a ‘star,’ how ’bout just a ‘star-ter?’ I mean, seriously … is Rico Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Zeke Elliott at this point starters? That’s why the Najee Harris stuff makes sense. I’m not saying he’s O.J. Simpson but you could put him in there,” Broussard said.

Let’s hope that Najee Harris is not O.J. Simpson. We’re talking about a man who was on trial for the brutal double murder of his ex-wife and her friend before being found not-guilty. It was a whole thing in the 1990s. We don’t need to rehash that. We all know about the “Trial of the Century.”

OK. We get it. Broussard could very well be talking about Simpson the player. He won an Heisman Trophy with USC before becoming a Pro Football Hall of Famer with the Buffalo Bills.

But that’s the comparison you use, Chris? What about other former Cowboys greats? I mean, Tony Dorsett and Emmitt Smith did actually suit up in Big D.

It’s Time To Stop With The O.J. Simpson Jokes, Says Every Dallas Cowboys Fan Ever

It’s not like the Cowboys have a great track record off the field. Do the names Michael Irvin, Nate Newton, Sam Hurd, Greg Hardy and Josh Brent ring a bell? While of varying degrees of seriousness, several Cowboys players have found themselves in hot water. That joke is no longer funny.

As for Simpson, the “Juice” died less than a month ago. His trial on the aforementioned double-murder charges was nearly three decades ago. Much like we saw during the Tom Brady Roast, it might just be time to come up with new material.

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice could be the butt of jokes right now. What about Travis Kelce’s relationship with Taylor Swift?

Let’s get some new material and let the O.J. Simpson thing die with him. Yes, that means no the “Deuce is Loose” jokes in Dallas this season. Thanks!
