The legendary golfer Tiger Woods has announced that his beloved mother Kultida died on Tuesday morning. She was 78 years-old. No cause of death has been given at this time.

Tiger’s Mother Dies

“It is with heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Kultida Woods, passed away early this morning,” Tiger, 49, wrote on social media. “My Mom was a force of nature all her own, her spirit was simply undeniable….she was quick with the needle and a laugh.”

“She was my biggest fan, greatest supporter, without her none of my personal achievements would have been possible,” he continued. “She was loved by so many,  but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie. Thank you all for your support, prayers and privacy at this difficult time for me and my family. Love you Mom.”

Kultida’s Life

Kultida had last been seen publicly just last week when she attended Tiger’s TGL match in South Florida.

Born in Thailand, Kultida was married to Tiger’s father Earl for 37 years before he died in 2006 at the age of 74. They met during Earl’s time serving in the U.S. military on a tour of duty in Thailand. Tiger is the only child that they had together. However, Tiger has older half-siblings from Earl’s first marriage.

Earl is far better known in golf circles. However, Tiger often praised his mother as being the “enforcer” of their family.

“My dad may have been in the Special Forces, but I was never afraid of him,” Tiger told USA Today in 2017. “My mom’s still here and I’m still deathly afraid of her. She’s a very tough, tough old lady, very demanding. … I love her so much, but she was tough.”

Tiger Praises Kultida

Last year, Tiger praised Kultida while accepting the 2024 Bob Jones Award, the USGA’s highest honor.

“My mom doesn’t get enough credit,” Tiger said in his speech. “Everyone thought it was my dad when I went on the road, which it was, but Mom was at home. If you don’t know, Mom has been there my entire life. She’s always been there through thick and thin.”

Tiger went on to say that it was his mother who shuttled him around to junior tournaments in his youth. He believes that she’s the one who instilled a toughness and ruthlessness in him.

“She has allowed me to get here,” Tiger said in his speech last year. “She allowed me to do these things, chase my dreams, and the support and love – I didn’t do this alone. I had the greatest rock that any child could possibly have: my mom. Thank you, Mommy.”

Tiger is currently scheduled to be the tournament host for the Genesis Invitational next week. The event has been relocated from Riviera Country Club to Torrey Pines in San Diego. It is unknown at this time if Tiger will be competing himself.

This is clearly a very difficult time for Tiger and his entire family. Please join us in saying a prayer for them as they mourn this devastating loss.

Rest in peace, Kultida Woods.
