Back in August 2021, Vitale revealed that he was diagnosed with melanoma following a trip to Hawaii with his wife to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.

He underwent a surgery on June 28th to remove a growth from above his nose. Vitale revealed the surgery “removed all cancer cells and I was relieved, big time, to be cancer clear.”

While they might have removed all the cancer cells, Vitale did reveal he then underwent four additional procedures to “sew up the area on my face.”

In October 2021, Vitale would reveal that he had “been undergoing tests and doctors have now confirmed it’s lymphoma.” He also noted that this lymphoma diagnosis was unrelated to his previous melanoma diagnosis.

He detailed at the time that his plan for treatment included “steroids and six months of chemotherapy.” He did note that “medical experts tell me it has a 90-percent cure rate.”

On Twitter, Vitale wrote, “Thanks so much to all of you for your prayers and support as I plan on fighting with all my heart to win this battle. Please know I appreciate so much that you care.”

Vitale detailed his fight with cancer to ESPN revealing he starts every day with a prayer.

“I start my day, every day, saying a prayer to my Mom and my Dad. And I just say, ‘Thank you. Thank you.'”

Earlier this week, Vitale documented he would undergo a PET Scan to determine whether or not the cancer was still in his system.

He tweeted on August 17th, “Getting prepared for PET [S]CAN which they say will be about a 90 minute total process. As cancer patients will tell you this is the journey that you must deal with when battling that disease.”

“I am so thankful for all the [prayers] & caring by so many!”
