New York Jets vs New England Patriots in week 3 | SCREENSHOT: Jets Talk 24/7 - YouTube

Start spreadin’ the news… the Jets are panicking today. At least that’s the way it sounds if you listen to Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay, who says the team is in “panic mode” since the week 1 injury to starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Once considered Super Bowl contenders, New York is strugg-a-ling at 1-2 behind backup Zach Wilson. Meanwhile, the Chiefs are coming off the Super Bowl victory a year ago and picking up right where they left off. Kansas City 2-1, with their only loss coming to Detroit. Now Gay and the KC crew are set to face the sputtering Jets on Sunday night on Broadway.

However, when Gay was asked about what he and his defensive teammates would be looking for against the Jets’ offense, he essentially shrugged them off.

“Damn, that’s a tough question,” he said. “A team that wants to run the ball. Of course, man, that wasn’t to be funny or anything, but A-Rod got hurt and they turned into a team where like (it was) panic mode, almost. That’s what I see, at least. They’ve got great running backs, so now they’re just trying to pound and ground.”

That’s because in the absence of Aaron Rodgers, former first-round pick Zach Wilson has played about as bad as any quarterback in The League. Through his first three games, he has 467 passing yards, two touchdowns, and four interceptions and has the second-lowest QBR in the NFL (behind only Chicago’s Justin Fields).

It’s hard to put the onus completely on Wilson, however. Considering the circumstance of replacing the ‘chosen one’ just four snaps into the season? Going 1-2 is actually an accomplishment. Especially under the bright lights of New York City. However, the young signal caller still had one very important supporter – Jets Head Coach Robert Salleh.

“Noise is noise,” he said of the chatter from outside the Jets facility. “It’s like a double-edged sword. It’s part of why this game is so great, is there’s so much attention, whether it’s positive or negative. I’ve said it before, we’ve got a great locker room. Lockerroom is locked in.”

“Is there frustration? Of course, there is. Any time you lose two in a row, there’s going to be frustration. It’s the NFL. When you lose, it feels like the world is caving in. When you win, everyone puts you on a pedestal. But there’s still a lot of confidence in the locker room.”
