Stephen A. Smith called out President Biden for bringing fried chicken to a sit-down dinner with a black family, something he suggests is a racist trope.
Fried chicken is tasty. We all know this.
Smith’s issue though, is that the President joined North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper for dinner at the home of Eric Fitts, a local educator, and his two sons.
On the way there, Cooper and Biden grabbed some grub from a restaurant called Cook Out. For whatever reason, they opted to grab fried chicken for the family while the President grabbed himself a burger.
Stephen A Smith Is Not Amused
For the ESPN sports analyst, the optics of Biden toting chicken to dinner with a black family was just too much.
“First of all, we all know about racial tropes, do we not? Racist tropes. You ever heard of that? Where people sit up there and try to use things to intimate something else of a racially insensitive nature. So black folks with the president and fried chicken ain’t the greatest look,” he said.
He also took issue with the fact that the octogenarian President would eat fried chicken in the first place.
“What the hell are you doing eating fried chicken? You’re 81,” Smith said. “What 81-year-old you know is munching on fried chicken? You ain’t been in the greatest health in a lot of people’s eyes, you know, so eating some fried chicken ain’t the greatest look.”
Biden’s Fried Chicken Fiasco?
Now, I’m not normally one who likes to defend President Biden under normal circumstances. That whole ‘destroying the country’ thing leaves a bad taste in the mouth.
But Stephen A Smith likes to interject race at every possible opportunity even when it’s plainly ignorant to do so. See his comments about Pat McAfee and Kliff Kingsbury, for example.
And it seems plainly ignorant to have done so in this case.
First off, Biden clearly eats a burger in the video, so that should satisfy his dietary requirements as decided on by Stephen A. for whatever reason.
Second, he didn’t stop at Popeye’s or KFC, he went to Cook Out, a fast-food restaurant like any other, and ordered the kids chicken fingers or tenders.
You know who else has tenders? Every fast food chain in America. Happy meals at McDonalds? Wendys kids meals? They all offer tenders.
Is Biden pandering? Sure. Can you never buy chicken fingers or tenders for an African-American friend? Give it a rest.
Now, where Stephen A. Smith is 1000% correct is his third point – that Donald Trump would never have gotten away with bringing chicken into the home of a black family.
Does anybody remember the media going apoplectic over his taco bowl picture? They are still studying this post in liberal academia to this day:
“If we’re being fair, if we saw Donald Trump sitting down in a black household, eating fried chicken with a father and a son, what would we say? You know folks out there would be calling it racist,” Smith said.
“Well, if it’s racist for him, and I’m not saying it would be, but if it’s racist for him, why wouldn’t it be racist for Biden?”
Smith was sure to drive home the point that he isn’t calling President Biden racist for the fried chicken incident, but “come on man.”
“That is the kind of scene, that is the kind of imagery you and your team decided to provide? Really? Really? Sitting down eating fried chicken?”
