We’re not sure if this sounds like the opening plot to a Hallmark movie or the script for a new Fatal Attraction.
Whatever it is, it’s certainly fascinating.
Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly, recently explained that in an attempt to get the attention of her future husband, she dated his backup quarterback at the University of Georgia.
She revealed the plot on last Tuesday’s episode of Kaitlyn Bristowe’s “Off the Vine” podcast. And dare we say, it obviously worked.
The couple were married in 2015 and have four children.
Matthew Stafford’s Wife Used The Backup QB To Get To The Starter
As Kelly tells the story, Matthew Stafford’s collegiate career wasn’t spent looking for wife material. In fact, as with many college kids, he seemed only interested in a casual relationship.
Kelly, then with the last name Hall, wasn’t having it.
“Long story short, it wasn’t that cute of a relationship at first. I hated him, I loved him, I dated the backup to piss him off which worked,” she said.
I don’t know about you, but I’d kind of like to hear the long story now.

More Details About The Plot
Matthew Stafford’s wife continued to tell the story of how she landed the starting quarterback by using the backup.
“He was the bad boy too,” she said of the backup QB at Georgia. “Matthew is so sweet and Southern gentleman and the backup was the complete opposite.”
Hall added, “At one point, he (Stafford) waited and followed me out to my car and got in my car and wouldn’t get out.”
“He was like, ‘He’s not right for you.’ and I was like, ‘You can’t tell me that. Get the f— out of my car,’” she recalled. “Meanwhile, he’s dating like 12/10s, supermodels.”

Stafford’s wife said that if anybody had predicted the two would get together, get married, and have four kids back then, “they would’ve laughed their asses off.”
Stafford played 12 years for the Detroit Lions before being traded to the Los Angeles Rams. His team faced the Lions in the playoffs this past season where Kelly indicated she and their kids were booed during the contest.
