The struggling Packers season continued Sunday as they lost their fifth game in a row. Detroit outscored the Packers 15-9 to win the game. The discussion about the Green Bay Packers’ disastrous season for the first nine weeks has centered around the inefficiency of their offense and quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ play.

Aaron Rodgers alone was responsible for 23 out of 43 passing attempts against the Packers, finishing with 291 yards and one passing touchdown. He also threw three interceptions two of which came in the red zone, the first game in Rodgers’ career he’s threw multiple red zone interceptions.
At different points during the game, Rodgers looked visibly frustrated as he progressed through it.

Rodgers addressed his poor play on The Pat McAfee Show Tuesday. “Well, there’s a lot that goes into all those things. What I can control — two of them weren’t great throws. You know, there’s some other parts to plays. It’s usually not just on one person. Every now and then it’s just on one person, but there’s a lot that goes into each play that could either avoid some of that thing and sometimes guys can screw parts of the play up and you can make a great throw, and make up for all of it,” Rodgers said.
“But it wasn’t a great throw to Dave and it wasn’t a great throw to Bobby. I’ve thrown a lot of those balls low around the goal line like that. I don’t know that — in that play there was some other things that could have probably gone that could have made it a different type of window.”

He then declared, “Look, I’ve made a throw — I’ve thrown touchdown passes many times, I don’t give a s*** what any of these experts on TV have to say.”
Rodgers then reiterated, “There’s a lot that goes into all these things. And for somebody to play armchair quarterback who doesn’t know what the hell play we’re running or what’s going on, that’s fine. I don’t really give a s*** to be honest with you. It’s s***ty, you know ball goes up in the air and gets — we had a couple of those in the game, the ball’s up in the air and our guys run into each other and the ball gets knocked down. S*** like that. Seems like that’s the way the ball’s been bouncing for us.”

Packers coach Matt Lefleur lamented his team’s struggles passing the ball in his post-game comments, “Credit to Detroit,” LaFleur said. “I mean, they dared us to throw the football. Like I can’t tell you how many times, you know, you’re looking, and particularly, when we’re under center and everybody’s mugged up on the line of scrimmage. So, we’ve got to do something different, obviously, because we’re not throwing and catching to the level that is conducive to winning football.”
If Green Bay plans to rise in the standings, Rodgers and the Packers will need to bolster their offense. After Sunday’s loss, a reporter asked Rodgers if he regretted not retiring this summer. However, Rodgers made it abundantly clear that his decision was one he was “all-in” on, and wished to lead the team to victories.
Rodgers replied to the question, “I think that’s an exaggeration. Frustration and miserability are two different emotions. When I decided to come back, it was all in and I don’t make decisions on hindsight 20/20, you know, have regrets about big decisions like that. So, I was all in.”
He added, “This was a lot of life lessons for sure this year, but luckily it’s not over there’s still a lot of games left. We’ll be counted out probably by many and we’ll see how we respond.”

The Packers have now lost 5 games in a row and are 4.5 games back of the 7-1 Vikings. Winning the division seems like a pipe dream at this point for Rodgers and the Packers. To even earn a wild card berth in the expanded NFL playoffs will take a massive turnaround for this team.
The team was already aware they needed help to reach their Super Bowl aspirations. The Packers reportedly offered a first-round pick for Panthers WR DJ Moore, a move intended to jump-start their lagging offense. But with the Panthers turning down that offer and the deadline passing without making any major moves Rodgers will have to move forward with the weapons he currently has.

While a wild card berth will take a big turnaround it is still very much in reach for the Packers. But the upset loss to the Lions makes their margin for error much smaller.
Week 10 will present a tougher test for the Packers as they will have to contend with former coach Mike McCarthy and the 6-2 Cowboys to try and avoid a sixth straight loss and a further dwindling of their playoff hopes.
